This artistic and functional pottery traces it's roots back to a beginning that started as folk art. Inspiration was taken from the peacock feather and even still the common blues and greens allow for easy mixing and matching even though there are literally thousands of
patterns. No two need ever be the same. Polish pottery that is produced in the southwest area of Poland, now known as Boleslawiec, has come a long way. The creamy off white color of the clay (mined in the same area) shows off the array of colors and patterns.
Shapes were once stamped onto the pieces using pieces of potato. Today, the technique is the same but the artists use pieces of sea sponges that they have individually cut into the desired shapes. The pottery is then glazed and fired in ovens that exceed 2100 degrees. All paints and glazes are lead and cadmium free. The result is a product that can withstand even the toughest households.
